The Regional Secretariat for the Sea and Fisheries, in partnership with the Azores Maritime School in Horta, is promoting a Safety Course in Manoeuvring and Operation of Port Cranes until July 5.

The course is designed to meet a legal requirement, which establishes the minimum health and safety provisions for the use of work equipment. It also incorporates the rules regarding the placement of machinery and its accessories on the market and their commissioning.

The training intends to qualify operators to act as professionals - this course covers topics related to the general operating specifications of cranes, general safety rules, specific rules and regulations applicable to the equipment, signage and usage rules, identification of risks when operating the equipment, safety devices and accident prevention. It also covers topics, such as handling loads, operating the equipment, knowing the controls and their functions, and manoeuvring the equipment with and without a load and with a progressive degree of difficulty.

Fishing professionals and the general public wishing to operate cranes in fishing harbours can register at the following link: https://formacao.emazores.pt/confirmainscricao.aspx?id=13&accao=58.

In addition to being a legal requirement, this course is mandatory in terms of the safety of people, rigging and property.
