The Regional Secretariat for Health and Social Security met with the Portuguese Nursing Association on Monday, at its request, to learn about the sector's concerns for this year.

The agenda included several matters concerning the nursing career.

The Nursing Association expressed its renewed optimism following the approval of the 2024 Plan and Budget, as far as the documents make it possible to resume the repositioning process that was already underway.

"It is already known, and nurses in particular, the tremendous efforts made in the Region in favour of this professional class. Everything has been done as agreed by the unions, the Portuguese Nursing Association and this government department," stressed Mónica Seidi.

The Portuguese Nursing Association calls for a swift process, a concern that the government official fully understands.

And she pointed out: "This process was well underway and had to be suddenly interrupted but now I am extremely pleased to realise that we are still on the same page. We all want to resume  this work, which is so important for the recognition of our nurses, without any further interruptions or unnecessary distractions."

Mónica Seidi also took the opportunity to express her profound gratitude to the entire nursing community for their willingness to help and work in favour of patients, highlighting the decisive role they continue to play not only after the fire at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital (HDES) but also in the functioning of the Regional Health Service.

Concerns about the nurses working in Private Social Solidarity Institutions and charities were also on the agenda.

Mónica Seidi agreed to review and move forward with a possible restructuring of the collaboration protocol between the Portuguese Nursing Association and the Regional Secretariat for Health and Social Solidarity, namely with the social area.

"We have a common goal for all parties involved, which is to make progress in the quality and level of care in our nursing homes," she said.
