Secretaria Regional da Juventude, Habitação e Emprego
Maria João Carreiro congratulated this Friday, in Praia da Vitória, the 86 young trainees attending Azorean Vocational Schools who competed in the Azores Skills - 25th Regional Skills Championship, including 19 gold medal winners, 19 silver medal winners and 18 bronze medal winners.
"I cannot hide the satisfaction and pride with which I have seen the clear demonstration of your ability, talent and skills for the occupations you want to pursue," said the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment at the closing session of Azores Skills.
The gold medal winners will represent the Azores at Portugal Skills, which will take place from November 12 to 16 in Santa Maria da Feira.
Maria João Carreiro praised that this edition of Azores Skills was marked by the "largest turnout ever" of students, vocational schools and occupations in competition, highlighting the "outstanding quality of the trainees who practised their skills."
"I leave this championship with a renewed belief in the good work of your schools and your trainers to train you for a labour market that should further acknowledge Vocational Education in Vocational Schools as a guarantee of qualified, capable and motivated professionals," she said.
As the Secretary for Vocational and Employment pointed out, "Vocational Education in Vocational Schools is alive, it is recommended, it is a choice of the present and it will increasingly be a choice of the future."
In this regard, she called on those taking part in Azores Skills to be ambassadors of Vocational Education in Vocational Schools, joining the ongoing "Your First Choice" campaign to disseminate among young people the new courses provided by Vocational Schools in the 2024/2025 school year.
"We are counting on you to defend and demonstrate the importance of vocational education in vocational schools to the community and companies," she said.
The 25th Regional Skills Championship, organised by the Regional Directorate for Vocational Training and Employment, kicked off on Monday and also saw the participation of 23 judges and 18 jury presidents. Trainees attending 13 Azorean vocational schools took part in this initiative.
