The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food recalled today that applications for support under the POSEI Programme and the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (PEPAC), measures aimed at agricultural and forestry productivity and economic development, are underway.

António Ventura stated that "the deadline for the submission of applications for the measures concerning payments directly granted to farmers applying for animal production premiums and aid for plant production under Portugal POSEI programme for the Autonomous Region of the Azores runs until May 31."

For the year 2024, aid applications are open to Arable Crop Producers; the Production of Traditional Crops; the Maintenance of Vineyards for the Production of Wines bearing a Designation of Origin and Wines bearing a Geographical Indication; the Production of Pineapple; the Production of Fruit and Vegetable Gardens and Other Crops; the Inter-island Transport of Young Cattle from the 1st and 2nd semesters; the Disposal of Young Cattle of the Azores from the 1st and 2nd semesters; and the Slaughter Premium for Young Cattle of the Azores from the 1st and 2nd semesters and the Premium for Milk Producers.

For 2025, the ongoing aid applications concern the Inter-island Transport of Young Cattle from the 1st and 2nd semesters; the Slaughter Premium for Cattle from the 1st and 2nd semesters; the Aid for the Disposal of Young Cattle of the Azores from the 1st and 2nd semesters; the Suckler Cow Premium; the Premium for Sheep and Goat Producers, and the Dairy Cow Premium.

In addition to these measures, applications are also open for the Declaration of the full farm area for 2024.

Regarding the support financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), António Ventura stated that payment requests can be made for commitments under PRORURAL and PRORURAL+, which can be consulted on the Agriculture Portal.

The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food added that the period for the submission of applications for support and payments under PEPAC runs until June 25. As he informed, they "cover interventions in the areas of Organic Farming - Conversion and Maintenance; 'Curraletas' and 'Lajidos' in Vineyard Culture; Conservation of Traditional Orchards in the Azores; Conservation of Living Fences for the Protection of Fruit and Vegetable Crops, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants; Maintenance of the Extensification of Livestock Production; Protection of Native Breeds; Compensation for Agricultural Areas Included in Hydrographic Basin Management Plans and also Areas Affected by Specific Constraints (MAAZD).

The opening notice containing all the measures and interventions with applications in progress can be consulted on the Agriculture Portal.

It should be recalled that POSEI establishes specific agricultural measures in favour of the outermost regions of the European Union to offset their remoteness, small size, topography and climate, as well as their dependence on a small number of products, which are all major constraints on agricultural activity.

In turn, PEPAC includes support measures to achieve the European Union's specific targets under the Common Agricultural Policy through direct payments, sectoral measures for fruit and vegetables, vineyards and beekeeping, and rural development instruments.
