The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, received the Mayor of Ponta Delgada, Pedro Nascimento Cabral, and the fado singer Kátia Guerreiro, commissioner of the Ponta Delgada, Portuguese Capital of Culture 2026 project, at the Palácio de Sant'Ana on Monday.

On the occasion, José Manuel Bolieiro conveyed the Regional Government's willingness to collaborate with the municipality on this project, which is expected to raise the prominence of Ponta Delgada throughout the Region.

Katia Guerreiro was appointed the commissioner of the Ponta Delgada project for the Portuguese Capital of Culture in 2026 on Monday.

Born on February 23, 1976, in South Africa, Katia Guerreiro moved to the island of São Miguel as a child. At 15, she began her musical career playing the "viola da terra" (traditional Azorean guitar) in the Santa Cecília Folk Dance Group in Fajã de Baixo.

Later, she pursued her medical degree in Lisbon, following a successful academic career while participating in various musical projects in the Portuguese capital.

In 2000,  she began her professional career by performing at a tribute concert to Amália Rodrigues at the Lisbon Coliseum.

Today, Katia Guerreiro can take pride in a career spanning more than two decades, with ten albums released, one of them platinum, and hits such as "Asas," "Até ao Fim," "Amor de Mel, Amor de Fel" and "9 Amores."
