Azores double Eurodyssey vacancies

The Autonomous Region of the Azores will double the number of vacancies for traineeships under the Eurodyssey programme in 2024, announced the Regional Secretary for Youth, Vocational Training and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, in Ponta Delgada today.
"Our aim is to provide 50 Eurodyssey vacancies next year. We intend to not only widen the opportunities for young people living in the Azores to have a professional experience in another European region but also to encourage young people from those regions to choose the Azores to do their professional traineeship with us," she said.
Accordingly, it is important that companies and employers "be available to contribute to the training and acquisition of skills by young people participating in Eurodyssey, particularly in professional areas that provide different approaches to the labour market," she stressed.
Maria João Carreiro spoke at the opening session of the Eurodyssey 2023 Forum, which is taking place this week on the island of São Miguel, an event organised by the Regional Government in partnership with the Assembly of European Regions (AER). It was attended, among other guests, by the President of the AER, Albert Castellanos, and the President of Eurodyssey, Esther Estany.
On the occasion, the Regional Secretary reiterated the Regional Government's commitment to the return of the Eurodyssey Forum to the Region, 15 years after it was last held, considering the importance of this initiative for "dialogue and reflection on the present and future of an iconic programme" to which the Azores joined in 1987.
"The journey of the Azores in Eurodyssey leaves no room for doubt about the added value of this programme for young people, companies and the regional economy," she said, reiterating that "attracting and securing young talents in the Azores is a key concern for the Regional Government.
"The competitive capacity of the Azores will increasingly depend on the knowledge, skills, participation and talent of workers," he said, emphasising the fact that the Eurodyssey Forum is returning to the Azores in this European Year of Skills.
About 80 representatives from 20 Eurodissey/ARE regions are taking part in the Eurodissey Forum.
