Oscar Depression - Press Release 3
Serviço Regional de Proteção Civil e Bombeiros dos Açores
Following the last press release, the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) informs that another 12 incidents have been registered.
Since the early hours of Tuesday (June 6, 2023) to date, a total of 36 incidents have been registered, all on the island of São Miguel, in the municipalities of Ponta Delgada, Lagoa, Vila Franca do Campo and Povoação.
The situations reported mainly concern the falling of trees, the collapse of structures, landslides and floods. There are also reports of some blocked roadways. At this time, the response teams are on site to proceed with the clearing and cleaning of the affected roads. No personal injuries have been recorded.
As a result of adverse weather conditions, the municipalities of Povoação and Nordeste are without land and mobile communications. At this time, given the improvement in the weather, communications are being restored. In case of emergency, the European emergency number 112 is operational in both municipalities.
The following entities are on site to provide support and respond to incidents: Fire Brigades, Regional Directorate for Public Works, Municipal Civil Protection Services, Public Security Police (PSP) and EDA - Azores Electricity Company, under the coordination of the SRPCBA.
Following the forecasts issued by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), which issued a yellow weather warning for wind until 6 am on Wednesday (June 7, 2023) for the Eastern Group, the SRPCBA urges the population to continue adopting self-protection measures (https://www.prociv.azores.gov.pt/alertas/ver.php?id=2596).
For more information on weather warnings, the population may download the Prociv Azores app to their smartphone or consult the portal www.prociv.azores.gov.pt and the SRPCBA Facebook page.
