"Moral values" are basis of Azores' support to Ukrainian people, stresses Faria e Castro

The Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency, Pedro de Faria e Castro, received today the Consul General of Ukraine in Portugal, Viktoriia Kuznietsova, in an audience held in Ponta Delgada, stressing "moral values" as the basis for support to the Ukrainian people who took refuge in the Region with the outbreak of war, about a year ago, without forgetting the Ukrainians living in the Azores for a longer period.
The Regional Director for the Communities, José Andrade, and Ana da Cunha da Silva, Technical Director of Cresaçor, also attended the meeting, which was an opportunity to exchange views on the support provided by the Azores Government to Ukrainian refugees coming to the Region. In this regard, Cresaçor "has been, along with the AIPA Association, an important partner of the Regional Government in this support," the Regional Under Secretary said, highlighting the "hospitality of the Azorean people."
The Consul General of Ukraine in Portugal took the opportunity to thank the "hospitality of the Azorean people" and was very impressed by the way how Portugal has supported and cherished the Ukrainian people since the beginning of the war, during what was "a huge challenge at all levels."
It should be recalled that the Azorean Government has set up a working team coordinated by the Office of the Under Secretary of the Presidency. This team has supported all refugees coming to the Azores, through the Social Security, the Secretariat for Health and Sport, the Secretariat for Education and Cultural Affairs, the Regional Directorate for the Communities and the Regional Directorate for Transport.
According to information from the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF), there are 201 registered Ukrainian citizens residing in the Azores benefiting from temporary protection.
However, there may be more citizens coming to the Region with their request for International Protection already made and with a Mainland Portugal address - likewise, there may be citizens registered in the Azores who have moved to Mainland Portugal or even to other countries.
