President of the Government welcomes world meeting of infrasound specialists in the Azores - Communication

The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, welcomed today more than 100 experts linked to infrasound technology who are in the Region to participate in the Infrasound Technology Workshop 2022 (ITW2022).

"We are an outermost region, but we are now at the centre of the world, here with you," the President said, speaking in Ponta Delgada at the opening of the meeting that takes place until Friday.

"I wish you a good and important reflection on science and the future. I am very honoured to welcome you," said José Manuel Bolieiro.

The Infrasound Technology Workshop 2022 (ITW2022) is a world meeting of experts linked to infrasound technology, which has already toured the world. This year, it is taking place in the Azores, bringing together more than 100 experts in the Region.

This meeting also includes the visit of a group of 20 specialists to the IS42 infrared station located on Graciosa Island, considered a word reference, which will be led by IVAR.

The event is co-organised by the CTBTO, the Portuguese Government (MNE), the Government of the Azores and the University of the Azores - Research Institute for Volcanology and Risk Assessment (IVAR).

The events aims to "create an international forum for the presentation and discussion of recent technological advances in infrasound technology and its operational capabilities at a global and regional level."
