Azorean Vocational Schools to compete in National Skills Championship with 14 gold medals
Secretaria Regional da Juventude, Qualificação Profissional e Emprego
The Regional Secretary for Youth, Vocational Training and Employment congratulated on Friday evening the participants of the 24th Regional Skills Championship, held in Terceira, including the winners of 14 gold medallists. They will represent the Azorean Vocational Education in the National Skills Championship to take place in Portimão in March.
"The performance of participants in the knowledge tests is the best evidence that Vocational Education is alive. In fact, it is a choice with a present and future and with a guarantee of qualified, capable and motivated professionals, as evidenced by the awarding of gold medals to all occupations in competition," she said.
Maria João Carreiro spoke at the closing session of the Regional Skills Championship, which began on Monday at the Praia da Vitória Vocational School. On the occasion, she called on young people to "defend and be advocates of Vocational Education, a vocational education pathway that can and should be the first choice of even more young people."
"Vocational Education is a successful option and the Azores will need more qualified professionals in a system geared towards students, which is mostly practical and based on a permanent learning and assessment process," she said, praising the "good work" of vocational schools and teachers.
The Regional Secretary conveyed her "satisfaction and pride" with which she accompanied this edition of the Regional Skills Championship. It registered the largest participation ever, involving 73 participants, 11 vocational schools, 44 jurors and 14 occupations in competition.
The 24th Regional Skills Championship was promoted by the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Vocational Training and Employment, through the Regional Directorate for Professional Qualification and Employment. It was the regional qualifying stage for the National Skills Championship/Portugal Skills, an event promoted by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) to be held in Portimão from March 7 to 12.
