The Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency stressed in Ponta Delgada "the importance of fostering the literacy of young people in the field of space exploration."

Pedro Faria e Castro spoke at the signing of a programme contract with Lagoa Secondary School. On the occasion, he highlighted the relevance of this said, stressing that "this area has been raising a growing interest, not only on a scientific level but also on a social and economic level."

The Cabinet of the Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency supports the travel of a group of students and teachers from the Lagoa Secondary School to Santa Maria for a field trip, as part of the ISU-Space project.

The programme of the visit, which will take place between November 10 and 13 November, includes activities involving students from the Vila do Porto Basic Education and Secondary School and activities intended for the population in general. It also includes conferences and visits to the RAEGE, Edisoft/ESA Portugal and NAV stations.

The support granted by the Regional Government to the Geocaching, Astronomy and Multimedia Club follows the application submitted by the School Fund of that school establishment, with a view to organising the aforementioned field trip. It intends to contribute to the goals set by the Club, namely to increase literacy in astrophysics, astronomy, satellite communications and radio amateur at the Lagoa School and within the community in general, considering the projects already underway in the field of space exploration for the Region.
