At the time, the government official stated that "encouraging enrollment and attendance in higher education is a strategic goal of the Regional Government." In this regard, he stated that the intention is that "young people have the necessary conditions so that they may, through their merit, work and dedication, qualify for university and be able to return to their island."
Regarding the opening of this application period for the 2022/2023 academic year, Artur Lima defended that the "Autonomous Region of the Azores provides Azorean students and their families with solid responses to support university education."
"Our vision is to create a common basis of opportunities for all young people, regardless of their initial financial condition," he stressed.
Last year, 150 students were covered by these scholarships, with the overall support amounting to 412 thousand Euros.
In turn, 582 students benefited from the support to the payment of tuition fees, which corresponded to 1/3 of the amount of Higher Education tuition fees. The amount reached 135 thousand Euros, corresponding to 232 Euros per student.
