Secretaria Regional da Juventude, Habitação e Emprego
The Azores Crafts Fair – Sanjoaninas will take place from June 19 to 28 June at Alto das Covas in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island, as announced by the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, through the Crafts and Design Centre of the Azores (CADA).
Products from 29 Craft Production Units (UPAs) will be on display and for sale, including 14 UPAs with products certified under the "Azores Handicrafts" collective brand.
Weaving, home textiles, ceramics, corn husk crafts, wooden toys and ethnographic miniatures, marquetry, embroidery, lace, glasswork, costume jewellery and crafts using synthetic materials, amongst others, are some of the craft sectors featured at the event.
The Azores Crafts Fair – Sanjoaninas, annually held by CADA, is open daily from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. Admission is free.
This edition will showcase the first phase of the redesign of the exhibition stands for the “Azores Crafts Fair” concept. This marks the continued investment by the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, in the craft sector, specifically through public financial, material and logistical support for the production, promotion and marketing of craft products.
The renovation of the exhibition stands opens up new exhibition opportunities and further enhances the appeal of the craft products on display and on sale at the fair.
Every year, the Azores Crafts Fair tours the Region’s main summer festivities.
The season for these local craft fairs begins in May, alongside the Santo Cristo dos Milagres Festivities in Ponta Delgada.
After the Sanjoaninas, the cycle of fairs continues with the Velas Cultural Week on São Jorge Island, from July 1 to 6; the Calheta Festivities, also on São Jorge Island, from July 10 to 14; the Praia Festivities on Terceira Island, from August 1 to 11; and the Sea Week on Faial Island, from August 1 to 10.
Also in August, the Azores Crafts Fair will take place during the Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres Festivities on Graciosa Island, from August 7 to 12, and the Whalers’ Week on Pico Island, from August 25 to 31. It will close with the Christmas Fair from November 27 to December 1 on the island of São Miguel.
