Secretaria Regional do Turismo, Mobilidade e Infraestruturas
The Autonomous Region of the Azores has, once again, made its mark on the national tourism scene by winning the award for Best National Stand at BTL 2026 – Better Tourism Lisbon Travel Market, the largest and most prestigious event in the sector in Portugal.
Among hundreds of exhibitors and tourist destinations, the Azores’ stand stood out for its innovative approach, striking identity and impressive ability to engage with the public, providing an immersive experience that transported visitors to the heart of the archipelago.
The Region was also nominated for the Sustainability award, a category in which Bensaude Hotels, a regional business group, received an Honourable Mention.
Inspired by the unique natural beauty of the Azores, the Region’s stand showcased a distinctive blend of landscapes, culture, authenticity and sustainability, faithfully reflecting the essence of the destination. The interactive elements, combined with sensory experiences and a dynamic programme, played a decisive role in the high level of engagement and recognition from both visitors and the jury.
This award, accepted by the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral, reinforces the Azores’ position as a tourist destination of excellence, recognised not only for its natural beauty but also for its ability to innovate in the way it presents itself to the world.
For the Regional Secretary, this distinction represents “recognition of the consistent work to promote the Region, based on the development of local resources and a sustainable development model."
The Azores’ presence at BTL 2026 was also marked by strong public interest and the archipelago’s consolidation as an international benchmark for sustainable tourism, authentic experiences and contact with nature.
