€1.5 million in funding allocated to cultural projects - Communication

The Regional Secretary for Education, Culture and Sport, Sofia Ribeiro, has announced the allocation of approximately €1.5 million in funding under the Legal Support Scheme for Cultural Activities (RJAAC) for annual and biennial projects. 

The announcement follows the publication of the decisions regarding cultural projects submitted as part of the applications to the RJAAC 2026 in the following areas: audiovisual and multimedia, performing arts, visual arts, cultural heritage, other events, interdisciplinary programmes, the publication of cultural works, the acquisition and repair of musical instruments, uniforms and costumes, as well as support for infrastructure intended for cultural activities.

According to the government official responsible for cultural affairs, there are applications which, "due to being part of ongoing projects, already have a degree of certainty regarding the amount of funding to be allocated next year."

"This is a new provision, introduced in the latest revision of the cultural funding regulations, which ensures greater predictability for the development of projects for the following year," she noted.

The government official explained that the allocated amount covers only projects submitted during the first application phase.

“Our legislative amendment created a second phase to support specific projects that could not have been foreseen at the time of the first application phase,” she explained.

Sofia Ribeiro added that a new allocation of funding will be carried out, “combining all applications into a single list sorted by artistic field” and in such a way as to “use up the budget allocation” set aside for RJAAC.

“This phased allocation allows us to maximise the funding to be granted, as it keeps pace with budget implementation,” she said.

Applications for the second phase have already been analysed. The respective results have been notified to cultural organisations and are currently undergoing administrative processing, in accordance with the law.
