The expansion and refurbishment of the air terminal and the Fire and Rescue Service building at Corvo Aerodrome, representing an investment of over €6 million, will be put out to tender later this month.

This project represents a strategic investment for the island of Corvo.
It is essential for enhancing safety standards, operational efficiency and the quality of service provided to passengers, in addition to ensuring that airport infrastructure meets current and future needs.

The project is primarily intended to improve the air terminal’s operational capacity in response to increased passenger and aircraft traffic,  modernise the existing infrastructure both functionally and technologically, and ensure compliance with national and international standards applicable to civil aviation, safety and fire protection.

The project will also promote increased comfort, accessibility and energy efficiency, as well as improved operational readiness of the Fire and Rescue Service, ensuring adequate response times in emergencies.

Regarding the air terminal building, the project include the expansion of existing areas and/or the creation of new structures, the refurbishment of indoor and outdoor spaces, and the reorganisation of passenger, baggage and staff flows, with a view to achieving a more efficient and functional operation.

As for the Fire and Rescue Service building, the plans include the expansion and adaptation of operational facilities, the refurbishment of technical, administrative and support areas, as well as the adaptation of the building to current airport security and operational requirements.

The air terminal will feature an updated functional layout, encompassing the main lobby, circulation areas, check-in and baggage drop-off areas, security screening, departure and arrival lounges, baggage claim area, retail and service areas, toilet facilities, technical areas, access points and outdoor areas.

The Fire and Rescue Service building will include garages for emergency vehicles, a control and communications room, training and briefing rooms, changing rooms and rest areas, equipment and fire-extinguishing agent storage areas, administrative areas and technical maintenance spaces.
