Regional Government supports up to €5,000 towards architectural designs and specialist services for housing construction - Communication

The Regional Government has just introduced a new incentive for self-build projects for permanent housing in the form of a non-repayable grant of up to €5,000 towards the cost of architectural designs and specialist services for housing construction on land plots allocated by the Region or privately owned plots.

Under the terms of the regulations published today in the Official Journal, this new support measure applies to projects submitted to the respective municipal councils after the regulations come into force, as well as to projects submitted throughout 2025.

The financial support is granted in two instalments: the first corresponds to 40% of the investment made and is paid following the submission of the licensing application to the respective municipal council; the second corresponds to 60% of the investment made and is paid following approval of the licensing by the respective municipal council.

Applications must be submitted using the designated form available on the Regional Directorate for Housing (DRH) website at https://portal.azores.gov.pt/web/drh, and delivered in one of the following formats:

• Email to [email protected];
• Registered post with acknowledgement of receipt to the Regional Directorate for Housing, located at Rua Dr. João Francisco de Sousa, n.º 30, 9500-187 Ponta Delgada;
• Delivered directly to the DRH services of each island.

According to the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, this support measure “represents another decisive step towards encouraging new building projects, making the path to home ownership more accessible,” whether on plots provided by the Region or on privately-owned plots.

Maria João Carreiro also emphasised that this financial contribution helps “ease the initial costs and remove one of the first hurdles that many families face.”

Support for architectural designs and specialist services can be combined with support for self-build projects. Following changes implemented by the Azorean Government and in force since January 1, 2026, this support can reach up to €75,000, depending on the household composition and income, and the type of housing.
