Regional Government opens registration for second training course on “Journalism and Artificial Intelligence” - Communication

Registrations for the second training course for journalists under the “Plan for the Azorean Media” – a series of measures introduced by the Azorean Government for the sector – are open until April 5.

Following an initial session held this March, the training provider, CENJOR, has launched a new course on the same topic – “Journalism and Artificial Intelligence” – in response to requests from several professionals who were unable to attend the first session.

The second session will take place in May, in a hybrid format.

The online component will take place on May 5, 12, 19 and 26, whilst the in-person modules will be held in São Miguel on May 22 and 23.

All journalists residing in the Azores who are interested – including those working for public sector entities such as RTP, Antena 1 and the Lusa news agency – must register on CENJOR’s online platform. 

This training course on “Journalism and Artificial Intelligence” will take place in Ponta Delgada and will be conducted by Ana Pinto Martinho and Paulo Agostinho. It was organised by the Regional Board of the Azorean Journalists' Union, a strategic, a partner in this project. The training programme will ensure vacancies for journalists from all islands, including Flores and Corvo, even if there are only correspondents, and the Azorean diaspora,  including journalists of Azorean origin working in North and South America.   

Like the previous course, held in March, this one will follow a hybrid format, combining online and in-person components. Travel and accommodation costs for journalists based outside São Miguel will be covered by the Regional Government.

The “Plan for the Azorean Media” is based on four key axes: the Media Incentive System (SIM); the purchase of institutional advertising packages from media outlets;  the subscription of publications acquired by the Region, for distribution in schools and Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS); and the training of Azorean journalists, in two annual initiatives, with content defined between CENJOR and the Regional Board of the Azorean Journalists' Union.
