The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, has initiated the relevant legal procedures following the recent announcement by the current public passenger transport operators that they would not be available to ensure the continuity of the public service in its current form from April 1, 2026.

In this context, the relevant pre-contractual procedure has been launched, with a view to ensuring the provision of public passenger transport services from that date.

The Government of the Azores considers it essential to ensure that the public passenger transport service runs without interruption, given that any disruption would have an immediate and significant impact on the lives of users who rely on it for their daily journeys on the island of São Miguel, particularly for work, access to healthcare and other essential services.
