Applications for the 2026 summer edition of the OTLJ sub-programmes "Holiday Occupation," "Summer in Occupation," and "Active Youth" are open until April 30. These programmes are promoted by the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, through the Regional Directorate for Youth.
Applications are open simultaneously for young people and project promoters. They must be submitted on the Youth Portal at juventude.azores.gov.pt.
The "Holiday Occupation" sub-programme is open to young people aged 14 to 24 residing in the Azores, who are currently enrolled in the 9th grade, or equivalent, or in secondary education.
The projects under these two sub-programmes run for 20 working days in July and August and cannot exceed five hours daily.
Young people receive a grant of €3 per hour, which could total €207.
The new "Summer Employment" sub-programme, created in 2025, is aimed at young people aged 16 to 24 living in the Azores, who are enrolled in secondary, general or vocational education, or higher education.
The projects run from July to August, totalling 35 working days, starting no later than the 5th working day of July, up to a maximum of 20 hours a week, without exceeding 5 hours a day.
Young people receive a grant of €4 per hour, which could total €560 if they complete their entire occupation.
The “Active Youth” sub-programme is aimed at young people aged 15 to 24 living in the Azores, who are in situations of social vulnerability and covered by projects promoted by Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS).
The projects run for 20 working days in July or August and cannot exceed five hours daily.
Young people placed in this sub-programme are awarded a grant of €3 per hour, which could total €207.
The new OTLJ regulations were published in January 2025.
Following the revision promoted by the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition government of regulations that had not been updated for seven years, support grants were increased by 20%, and the application period was extended from one to two months. In addition, the "Summer in Occupation" programme was created, and more promoting entities were included to increase the offer and diversification of leisure activities for young people residing in the Azores during the summer months.
All information on OTLJ is available for consultation on the Youth Portal.
