The Regional Secretary for Education, Culture and Sport, Sofia Ribeiro, presented guidelines to regional schools for integrating the plan to tackle early dropout from education and training, as part of the strategy to promote the success of Azorean students.
“The idea is to create an effective plan based on the Azores Education Strategy 2030 and the specific plans of each school, taking into account local and individual circumstances, without, however, adding more bureaucracy to the system,” she stressed.
The plan was analysed on Thursday, February 26, at the Madalena Basic Education and Secondary School, during a meeting of the Coordinating Council of the Regional Education System, which brought together the presidents of school boards, representatives of the teaching staff and non-teaching staff unions, as well as representatives of parents' and guardians' associations.
This body had already approved a three-phase pyramid structure for the plan, and the guidelines "that should be integrated into its implementation" have now been presented.
The Secretary for Education explained that the first phase includes "a universal approach to promoting success"; the second phase "focuses on intervention, aimed at high-risk groups’; and the final phase involves "an individual approach, aimed at young people in dropout situations."
“The intervention requires a multidisciplinary approach, involving different Regional Government departments, as well as local authorities,” concluded Sofia Ribeiro.
