The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, welcomed today the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Rui Rocha, at an audience, where he highlighted the existing synergies and encouraged a "culture of everyday civil protection among the Azorean population."

"We want a culture of civil protection among the population that is part of everyday life, so that everyone feels confident despite the risks in the geographical areas we represent," stressed the President of the Government.

The meeting between the two leaders took place at the Sant’Ana Palace in Ponta Delgada.

Also present at the meeting were the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel, and the President of the Azores Civil Protection, Rui Andrade.

José Manuel Bolieiro acknowledged that the Azores have "more constraints" in this field than "available resources." For this reason, "a good dialogue and synergies" between those responsible for this area in the archipelago and professionals from across the country are essential.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the Secretary of State, who is off to a good start in his mission, with an understanding of its complexity and of the country as a whole," stated the President of the Government.

The implementation of EU funds, reflections on the legal framework for fire brigades, and the role of municipalities in these areas were also topics discussed between José Manuel Bolieiro and Rui Rocha.
