Secretaria Regional da Saúde e Segurança Social
The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, praised on Wednesday the use of technology in the area of health, recalling, for example, the successful launch of the mySaúdeAçores app and encouraging telemedicine.
"The ageing population has driven the demand for technological solutions that promote autonomy, well-being and social inclusion, also for senior citizens and those with a certain degree of dependency," she said.
Mónica Seidi spoke in Madalena, Pico Island, at the opening of the Azores Senior Tech Expo event.
The government official reiterated the "strong commitment" to telemedicine, pointing out: "We want to heavily invest in telemedicine to provide greater comfort to our patients, avoiding unnecessary travel and ensuring accessibility to health centres at all times."
Before the audience, Mónica Seidi gave examples of technological applications in healthcare and social services, highlighting the agreement between the Red Cross and the Institute for Social Security of the Azores (ISSA) to support residents of the Region aged 65 or over who have a "proven degree of dependency or disability."
