The Regional Secretariat for Health and Social Security expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Dr. Carlos José Pavão de Matos.
Carlos José Pavão de Matos, a pulmonologist, was born in Ponta Delgada and passed away at the age of 66.
He began his General Internship at Ponta Delgada Hospital on February 1, 1984. He entered the Complementary Internship in Pulmonology on June 19, 1987, and became a Temporary Assistant in Pulmonology on January 25, 1992.
On March 1, 1993, he was appointed Hospital Assistant in Pulmonology through a competitive selection process, and on May 20, 1999, he was promoted to the position of Graduate Assistant in Pulmonology.
On June 2, 2021, he was appointed Director of the Pulmonology Service, a position he has held to date.
On December 18, 2013, he was also appointed a member of the Antibiotics Commission, and a member of the Local Coordination Group for the Programme for the Prevention and Control of Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (PPCIRA) on November 6, 2014.
On September 30, 2016, he was promoted to Senior Graduate Assistant in Pulmonology.
He will continue to be a reference for his peers, who will remember him fondly.
