Service contract awarded for design and implementation of construction project for new Lajes do Pico Health Centre
Secretaria Regional do Turismo, Mobilidade e Infraestruturas
The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral, has just signed the order awarding the service contract for the design and implementation project for the construction of the new Lajes Health Centre on the island of Pico.
The service contract was awarded to METRO URBE – Projetos e Consultadoria em Arquitetura. Lda. for €493,000 (including VAT at the legal rate in force).
The project includes the demolition of the warehouses at the site and the construction of a new building that can meet the primary healthcare needs of thePico Island population.
At the same time, it should meet the internal functional needs of the unit and the external reality, namely, the lack of parking in the vicinity.
Considering the natural unevenness of the plot, estimated at around 7.9 metres between the two streets that border it to the east and west, the building is planned to be built on three floors.
The lower floor (Floor -2) will be used for covered parking for employees and technical areas, with access from the road along the seafront, while the middle floor (Floor -1) will accommodate administrative, support and storage areas, with direct access for loading and unloading.
The upper floor (Floor 0), facing the regional road, will house emergency, outpatient and physiotherapy services, with separate access for users, ambulances and the general public.
When defining the technical solutions and materials to be used, preference is given to alternatives that have low maintenance costs throughout the building's useful life, even if this is achieved at the detriment of a more expressive architectural design.
