Applications are now open for the Estagiar L, Estgaiar T and Estgaiar + programme, which runs simultaneously for young people and promoters until March 31, 2026.

The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, informs that applications must be submitted on the empregojovem.azores.gov.pt website.

The internships will begin between September 1 and April 30 at private organisations, in the case of Estagiar L and Estagiar T, which also include sole proprietors, cooperatives and Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS), as well as public administration entities, in the case of Estagiar +.

Traineeships last 12 months, including a rest period of one month. They can be extended for another three months on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Faial in the case of private sector employers. On the islands of Santa Maria, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa, Flores and Corvo, the traineeships can be extended for a further six months in the case of private sector employers and for a further three months in the case of public administration entities.

Residents of the Autonomous Region of the Azores for at least six months and with the following qualifications are eligible to apply for the Estagiar programme:

Recent higher education graduates (level 6, 7 or 8 of the National Qualifications Framework - NQF, for Estagiar L; recent graduates from vocational training courses (level 4 or 5 of the NQF), for Estagiar T; and unemployed young people or those looking for their first job with a qualification equal to or lower than level 3 of the NQF;

Young people enrolled in the Estagiar L are awarded a monthly grant corresponding to 100% of the Minimum Monthly Wage in the Region (RMMG), with a 25% increase;

Young people enrolled in Estagiar T are awarded a monthly grant corresponding to 100% of the RMMG, with a 5% increase. In turn, young people enrolled in Estagiar + are awarded a monthly grant amounting to 100% of the RMMG, which is set at 913.50 Euros in 2025.

Trainees taking part in each of the three programmes also benefit from a meal allowance corresponding to that stipulated for Civil Service as well as from Social Security coverage for employees, thus beginning their contributory activity for social protection purposes.

The Estagiar programme aims to support the transition of young people from education to working life, as well as to encourage the recruitment and maintenance of young talent in regional companies and employers.

In 2022, the PSD/CDS/PPM coalition Government revised the programme's regulations. It has introduced, among other improvements, an extended application period and a longer training period for trainees in the private sector, an increased traineeship grant tailored to the qualification level of young people, as well as a guarantee of social protection and the beginning of trainees' contributory activity during their training period.
