The Regional Secretary for Education, Culture and Sport, Sofia Ribeiro, welcomed the results of the national exams.
"In eight subjects, the regional average is higher than the national average," she said.
The marks regarding the 11th and 12th grade exams were published on Tuesday, July 15, for all students nationwide.
The Region was ahead of the national average in Maths-level B, Portuguese Literature, Drawing-level A, History-level B, History and Culture of the Arts, Spanish, Latin-level A and Portuguese as a Non-Native Language.
"Once again, there is a convergence between the results of the Autonomous Region of the Azores and the rest of the country," stressed Sofia Ribeiro.
It should be noted that, in 2023, the Azores had, for the first time, moved off the bottom in terms of national exam results. In 2025, they even achieved better grades in 10 subjects.
The 20-point mark (from a 0-20 scale) was recorded for Maths-level A at Tomás de Borba Basic Education and Secondary School; Physics and Chemistry at Madalena Basic Education and Secondary School and Lagoa Secondary School; Maths-level B at São Roque do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School and Velas Basic Education and Secondary School; Drawing-level A at Lajes do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School, and Descriptive Geometry-level A at Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School.
In 2024, 12th-grade students took exams solely for access to higher education, but there were changes in this school year.
In 2025, all students complied with the new compulsory model, taking three exams to complete secondary education, in which Portuguese was compulsory with the option of choosing the other two.
