The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, received in audience a delegation from the Casa do Povo de Santa Bárbara of Terceira Island, led by the President of the Board, Durval dos Santos, at the Sant'Ana Palace. The visit took place as part of the celebrations for the 10th edition of the "West Academy – Meeting of Generations," a project intended to promote active ageing and intergenerational ties.

The delegation, composed of 18 members, brought together students from the Senior Academy, teachers, volunteers, and members of the management team. The ‘West Academy’ is a senior university affiliated with the Senior Universities Network, aimed at people over 50. It is based on volunteering, encouraging socialisation and continuous learning.

During the audience, the head of the Azorean Government highlighted the social and educational importance of the project.

“I am delighted to welcome this initiative, which strengthens ties between people of different generations,” he said.

The Casa do Povo de Santa Bárbara has several partnerships with the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Health and Social Security, in areas such as health promotion, caregiver training, and combating prejudice related to ageing. All these actions are aligned with the goals of the Regional Health Plan 2030.

The President of the Government also assured the continued support of the Regional Government.

"You can count on the Government of the Azores to continue supporting projects that benefit people and the community," he concluded.

The audience ended with the appreciation of the work developed by the Casa do Povo and the acknowledgement of the positive impact of the "West Academy" on the society of Terceira Island.
