Last week, the presentation of the mySaúde Açores project was part of the Connectathon conference cycle, which took place in Vienna, Austria.

Under the theme "A Regional Approach to Health Data Exchange: The Azores Interoperability Project," the presentation was delivered by Paulo Brás, Director of Information Systems at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital.

mySaúde Açores, which already has nearly 17 thousand registrations, has been recognised for its innovative nature and ability to put technology at the service of users, streamlining processes and making access to health care more equitable and inclusive.

The project is an essential part of the development and implementation of the Azores Health Information Repository and its respective portals, including mechanisms for interoperability with local systems (MUSA - Single Health Model in the Azores).

“The international recognition strengthens the role of the Autonomous Region of the Azores as a pioneer in finding innovative solutions in the area of health, showing itself capable of overcoming the barriers of geographical isolation and facing the challenges facing outermost regions, with users and their well-being as the main focus,” stated the Regional Secretary Mónica Seidi.

"The project also demonstrates how an island region is responding to the challenges of integration and secure sharing of clinical data with effective technological solutions," he continued.

Since its launch on January 28, 2025, mySaúde Açores has been streamlining access to health services for the Azorean population, whether through the app or the web portal.

Among the most frequently used features are appointment requests, accessible anytime and anywhere, and the possibility of teleconsultations, which have been particularly beneficial for users with mobility difficulties.

Registration is free and only requires entering the user number and telephone number associated with the medical record. In addition, the platform allows multiple users to be associated with a single telephone number, which facilitates the management of accounts for dependent family members.

The project, which is part of the Digital Hospital initiative, is funded under the RRP and has Siemens Healthineers as a partner. It continues to be developed not only to constantly improve existing features but also to introduce new ones, which will be launched soon. The integration of the two largest hospitals in the Region, the Santo Espírito Hospital of Terceira Island and the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital on São Miguel Island, is also a new milestone to be announced shortly.
