Presidência do Governo Regional
The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, Paulo Estêvão, presided over the inauguration ceremony for the new Advisers of the Azorean Diaspora. The event was held virtually as part of the Region Day celebrations from the Praia da Vitória City Hall.
Seventeen advisers were sworn in. They were elected by the Azorean communities of Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, the United States of America, Uruguay, Mainland Portugal, Madeira and several other countries where the Azorean presence remains deeply rooted. Their mission is to represent the concerns, aspirations and contributions of the emigrant communities to the self-governing bodies of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, strengthening the ties between the Azores and their diaspora.
The head of the Azorean Government praised the role that Azoreans around the world have played over generations, highlighting how their exemplary conduct and resilient spirit have contributed to the good name of the Azores beyond their borders.
"Our diaspora is a living expression of Azorean identity, carrying with it the values of our land and projecting them with dignity in their host societies," stated the President of the Regional Government.
Mentioning the importance of active community participation in Azorean public life, the President of the Government praised the role of the Diaspora Council as a space for constructive dialogue, proximity and involvement. He considered that this structure represents a modern expression of citizenship, based on a lasting sense of belonging, regardless of geographical location.
"We count on these advisers to strengthen the ties between the Azores and their offspring scattered around the world, promoting mutual listening, legitimate representation and shared construction," he added.
The ceremony was conducted with sobriety and symbolism, marked by the oath taken by each adviser in a moment of reaffirmation of their commitment to the Azores and the values of public service.
This inauguration marks a new step in establishing the Azorean presence in the world, sustained by the contribution of citizens who, despite the distance, keep alive the ties to their homeland and are willing to serve the Region with civic spirit and dedication.
