The Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities is organising the 3rd Meeting of Media Directors from the Azores and North America, this time in Canada, more precisely in the cities of Toronto and Montreal, from June 12 to 16.

Organised by the Regional Directorate for the Communities, the initiative brings together Azorean media outlets with their Canadian counterparts serving the Portuguese communities in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. It aims to debate the new challenges of transatlantic communication as well as share information, experiences and knowledge between these media outlets.

The meeting programme begins in the province of Ontario on June 12. It includes visits by representatives of the Azorean media to Camões TV, Camões Radio and Chin Radio and TV in Toronto, as well as to the Correio da Manhã Canada newspaper and CMCTV and CIRV FM radio in Brampton.

On the morning of the following day, June 13, visits are scheduled to OMNI Television and FPTV.

The first session of the 3rd Meeting of Media Directors from the Azores and North America will take place in the afternoon. It will be chaired by the Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, Paulo Estêvão, at the Graciosa Community Centre in Toronto, featuring the participation of various media outlets from the Azores and the province of Ontario. The event will be divided into panels dedicated to the press, radio and television.

The second session of the meeting will be held on June 14 at the House of the Azores of Quebec in Montreal. It will also be chaired by the Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities and will once again be attended by the Azorean media present at the initiative and, this time, the press, radio and television outlets serving the local Portuguese-speaking communities.

On June 15, the Azorean delegation will take part in the traditional Holy Spirit festivities in the community of Laval and visit LusaQTV and Radio Centre-Ville the following day.

The 3rd Meeting of Media Directors from the Azores and North America is attended by the following Azorean media outlets: Diário dos Açores, Diário Insular, Ilha Maior, Tribuna das Ilhas, Rádio Atlântida, Rádio Clube Asas do Atlântico, Rádio Clube de Angra, RTP Açores and VITEC - Azores TV.

Twenty media outlets serving the Portuguese communities in these two Canadian provinces will be present, 15 of which are based in Ontario (Correio da Manhã Canada, Jornal de Toronto, North News, O Milénio Stadium, Revista Amar, Revista Luso Life, Camões Radio, CIRV FM, Rádio Luso Canadá, Rádio Sons de Portugal, Camões TV, CMCTV, FPTV, Gente da Nossa TV and OMNI TV) and five in Quebec (Voz de Portugal, LusoPresse, Rádio Centre-Ville, LusaQTV and Montreal TV Magazine).

The two previous editions of this initiative took place on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira, in the Azores, and in Fall River and New Bedford, USA, in May and October 2022, respectively.

The previous editions saw the creation of ADMA - Azores Diaspora Media Alliance, a platform for cooperation between media organisations in the Azores and North America, which is coordinated by the  State University.

The meeting to be held in Canada intends to be a space for debate on common challenges between the media organisations of the Azores and their communities, encouraging the exchange of information and experiences to promote the Region, its culture and its potential.

The Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, created within the organisational structure of the XIV Government of the Azores, is endowed with specific competences in media affairs.
