The Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, through the Regional Directorate for Housing, has awarded 12 serviced plots to 12 households in the parish of Ribeirinha, municipality of Ribeira Grande, São Miguel Island, as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

The public draw for the allocation of 18 serviced plots located in Rua do Jogo, representing an investment of 450 thousand Euros, took place at the Ribeirinha Parish Council headquarters. The session was attended by the members of the tender jury and the applicants admitted to this procedure.

22 households have applied for this procedure, with 12 being admitted, three withdrawing voluntarily and seven being excluded for failing to meet the requirements set out in the tender programme.

The plots, measuring 200 m² each, are intended for the construction of 3-bedroom individual dwellings, with a gross construction area of 112 m². The transfer was granted under title retention and without a project. The cost of the square metre of serviced plots was set at €125.00.

The actual cost to be borne by beneficiaries will be determined according to the household gross monthly income per capita, ensuring greater social justice and equal access to housing.

According to the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, this measure "puts into practice the Azorean Government's commitment to providing decent housing."

"We are turning intentions into practical actions by creating opportunities for Azoreans to build their future on their islands," stated Maria João Carreiro.

She also stressed that "the housing challenge we face requires a firm and strategic response." For this reason, the Regional Government "is fulfilling the goals it has set for the Azoreans with precision and a future-oriented approach."

"This draw is more than a technical step. It is a clear statement that housing is and will remain a key political priority," she emphasised, reiterating that the Government is committed to promoting “sustainable and equitable housing solutions with a direct impact on the quality of life of Azorean families.”

The RRP includes the transfer of 145 serviced plots in the Region until June 2026.
