The Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, through the Regional Directorate for Vocational Training and Employment, will promote a seminar on "The Extrajudicial Resolution of Labour Disputes in the Azores" on May 2, as part of the activities of SERCAT - the Regional Labour Conciliation and Arbitration Service.
The seminar will take place between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. at the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive auditorium on the island of São Miguel. Participation is open to all interested parties and subject to registration, free of charge, until April 29 using the form available at https://forms.office.com/e/tEaSP61ENk.
The opening session will be chaired by the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, followed by the presentation "SERCAT - Reconciling for over 35 years."
"The Extrajudicial Resolution of Conflicts" is the theme of the round table, moderated by Renato Medeiros, Regional Director for Vocational Training and Employment, in which Carlos Câmara, Arbitrator President of the CESA Arbitration Court (Economic and Social Council of the Azores), will take part; Maria José Araújo, President of SERCAT Conciliation and Arbitration Commission - Horta; José Manuel de Araújo Barros, Judge Counsellor of the Consumer Arbitration Court of the Azores Region; and Nuno Vicente, Public Prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Azores District - Ponta Delgada Labour Court.
SERCAT is an alternative means of solving private labour disputes, through which workers and employers seek to solve, by agreement and voluntarily, conflicts arising from the implementation or termination of individual employment contracts.
SERCAT was created 36 years ago in the Region and is made up of three Conciliation and Arbitration Commissions headquartered in Ponta Delgada, Angra do Heroísmo and Horta.
