Secretaria Regional da Juventude, Habitação e Emprego

The application period for the allocation of 11 serviced plots in the parish of Urzelina, municipality of Velas, São Jorge Island, is open until April 30.

The Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment promoted this tender, through the Regional Directorate for Housing.

The plots are intended for building single-family houses, with a gross construction area between 176 m2 and 386 m2, and will be granted under title retention and without a project.

Allocations will be made by drawing lots among the first 11 applicants ranked according to the criteria established in the tender regulations.

The square metre cost of serviced plots was set at €48.50, with the actual cost to be borne by beneficiaries, as determined according to the household gross monthly income per capita. This measure seeks to promote greater social justice and enhance financial accessibility for families in the Azores.

According to Announcement no.174/2025 of March 31, 2025, published in the Official Journal, applications will be scored with an increase for young candidates. This will also allow the plot beneficiaries to access support for self-construction, reducing housing building costs.

The to be allocated under this tender are located at Travessa dos Casteletes. The application form is available at portal.azores.gov.pt and can be submitted at the Regional Directorate for Housing Services or the RIAC offices.

The Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, stressed that this measure reflects the Regional Government's commitment to effective public policies to provide adequate and affordable housing for Azorean residents.

"This tender underlines this Government's priority to create the conditions for Azoreans, especially young people, to build their lives in the Region, promoting territorial cohesion and the establishment of populations," she said.

According to the Regional Secretary, the Regional Government is investing in the qualification and improvement of the territory, complementing the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). This "ensures more opportunities for families to settle and boosts the construction sector, which is fundamental to the regional economy."

"With this measure, we are taking another step towards guaranteeing sustainable development and an inclusive housing policy that responds to the real needs of the population. This tender confirms our commitment and the sustained work we have been doing," she concluded.
