The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, accompanied by the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Action, Alonso Miguel, officially delivered two compact wheel loaders to the Waste Processing Centres (CPR) on the islands of Flores and Corvo. This measure aims to improve waste management efficiency and safety, increasing the operational capacity of these infrastructures.

The purchase of the new equipment, representing an investment of €99,307.60 (VAT included), falls within the strategy to promote and optimise waste management set out in the Azores Strategic Waste Management Plan (PEGRA) and the Azores Strategic Waste Management Plan (PEPGRA).

The mini wheel loaders, equipped with buckets and forks, make it easier to move waste and organise space, effectively responding to the logistical limitations of these smaller islands.

The head of the Azorean Government underlined the importance of this investment in ensuring more efficient and sustainable waste management, stressing that "the Azorean Government has been building up capacities on all islands, without exception, to ensure equal opportunities and access to the best possible resources."

José Manuel Bolieiro also stressed that "these additional resources will support local operators and optimise the operation of processing centres, responding to the specific logistical difficulties of Flores and Corvo."

The Flores and Corvo Waste Processing Centre, managed by Resiaçores since 2012, have played a crucial role in the evolution of waste management in the Azores, contributing to a significant increase in waste forwarded for recovery. The investment intends to consolidate this progress, promoting operational efficiency and environmental sustainability in the Azorean archipelago.
