José Manuel Bolieiro highlights "importance of corruption prevention and administrative transparency"

The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, chaired today the conference "Prevention of Corruption and Administrative Transparency," held at the Conceição Palace in Ponta Delgada.

The initiative brought together experts and authorities to debate strategies and good practices in public administration, promoting reflection and raising awareness on these fundamental issues.

The event, organised by the Presidency of the Government of the Azores, was moderated by Ana Celeste Carvalho, Judge Counsellor of the Supreme Administrative Court. 

Among the speakers were Amadeu Guerra, Prosecutor General, who addressed the topic of "Corruption Prevention and Criminal Investigation"; Sérgio Pratas, Head of the Commission on Access to Administrative Documents (CADA), who presented "Transparency at the Service of Corruption Prevention"; and Pedro Gonçalves, President of the Centre for Public Law and Regulation Studies (CEDIPRE), Full Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and Lawyer, who addressed "Good Practices in Public Procurement Procedures."

José Manuel Bolieiro emphasised the continuing relevance of this issue. He stated "I have one belief: this issue has always been a pressing matter, it is not a one-off issue. It has to be the foundation of democratic life and the rule of law, in which people and their institutions serve their mission, power, values and the principles most fundamental to good public administration."

The head of the Azorean Government also announced the appointment of Patrícia Borges as the new coordinator of the Corruption Prevention and Transparency Office (GPCT).

"I believe Patrícia Borges has the essential qualities for this assignment. With her competence, knowledge and independence, she will contribute to an environment of greater integrity, ethics and transparency in public administration," stated José Manuel Bolieiro.

Patrícia Borges holds a Law degree from the University of Lisbon, a postgraduate degree in Tax Law and a Master's degree in Corporate Law from ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon. She currently holds the position of inspector at the Regional Administrative Inspectorate. She has also held positions at the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity and the Angra do Heroísmo City Council.

The event stressed the importance of administrative transparency and the fight against corruption, highlighting the Azorean Government's commitment to good governance and stronger public ethics.
