The Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, presided over the laying of the foundation stone for the Social Rehabilitation, Monitoring and Care Centre for people with disabilities of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Angra do Heroísmo.

The investment exceeds seven million Euros. According to the government official, it will bring "more dignity to the care provided by this institution," in addition to "increasing the capacity to receive more users in different areas."

"We have to increase the response in this area, realising the trend towards growth in the coming years," she said.

The various services will be distributed around the cloister on both floors, respecting the architectural structure of this former convent, with 12 double rooms for 24 users within Community Care Units; three double rooms and one single room for users of seven Residential Structures for the Elderly, and the necessary conditions and facilities for 36 Day Centre users. This can "help families who now have a place where their relatives can stay safely and return home at the end of the day."

Mónica Seidi highlighted the collaboration between institutions such as the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Angra do Heroísmo and the Regional Government. She pointed out that "it is as a team that we provide home support, day care, residential facilities for the elderly, care and rehabilitation centres, with the Santa Casa having a total installed capacity of 382 vacancies and supporting 412 users."

According to the Regional Secretary, the Regional Government's recognition of the institution's importance in the social sector is visible through the six Client-Value Cooperation Contracts with Social Security. The overall investment has increased in recent years, with just over two million Euros in 2021 and about three and a half million Euros at the end of last year.
