The President of the Regional Government received Lieutenant General Pedro Soares, head of the Azores Operational Command, in a farewell audience today. On this occasion, José Manuel Bolieiro expressed gratitude for his work and highlighted his "diligence, commitment and willingness to cooperate," throughout his time serving in the archipelago.

The head of the Azorean Government praised the fundamental role of the Armed Forces in supporting the Azorean population, highlighting, in particular, their response to the fire that affected the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital (HDES) in May 2024. The President of the Government recalled the promptness and efficiency demonstrated by the Azores Operational Command in setting up a field hospital and transporting evacuated patients.

He also highlighted the instrumental contribution of the Armed Forces in airlifting the new hospital equipment, enabling the reopening of the HDES modular structure and guaranteeing a higher quality health service for the Azorean population.

"This equipment is in operation as of today thanks to this commitment and coordination, for which we are all grateful," stated José Manuel Bolieiro.

He also emphasised his appreciation for the work of Lieutenant General Pedro Soares and the entire team at the Azores Operational Command.

The President of the Government thanked all the military personnel who, over the years, have been "exemplary in their support for the Azorean population and the nine islands of the Azores."
