Press release - Landslide on alternative road to Raminho Regional Road on Terceira Island
Secretaria Regional do Turismo, Mobilidade e Infraestruturas
Early this morning, February 5, there was a significant rockslide on the alternative Forest Road to the Raminho Regional Road caused by the permanent instability of the slopes in that area of Terceira Island.
The situation was promptly solved by the Regional Directorate for Public Works, with the support of Tecnovia, the contractor carrying out the improvement works on this road.
The works to upgrade this road will continue as normally as possible with the aim of improving traffic conditions and providing a viable alternative to the regional road.
The works contract to stabilise the slope of the Raminho Regional Road is in the final phase of the administrative awarding procedure, which will then be submitted to the Court of Auditors.
Nevertheless, the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures warns that the entire area, under current conditions, evidences several risks to people and property due to the effects of the seismic crisis that has been occurring in the Santa Bárbara volcano since 2022, aggravated by the adverse weather conditions of recent months.
In this regard, the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures urges all those travelling in these areas to exercise the utmost caution, respecting the existing signs, the indications on site or in public notices and, whenever possible, avoiding travelling and permanence in risk areas.
The Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures also calls for the understanding of people and the responsibility of all entities, both in their communication and in their actions, emphasising that the priority is, and always will be, the safety of people.
