He emphasised the need for a collective effort to end the conflicts that plague the world, addressing global leaders in particular.
"We must humbly contribute, through our everyday gestures, to building a world where peace prevails over war," he said.
The head of the Azorean Government noted that democracy must be closely linked to diplomacy as an essential tool for solving conflicts and promoting global understanding.
The President of the Government also expressed his wish for 2025 to be a year of greater harmony in all dimensions of life.
"We want more peace, coexistence and understanding among families, companies and nations. Only then can we aspire to a prosperous future for all," he stressed.
José Manuel Bolieiro also wished prosperity for the Azores and all Azoreans, highlighting the importance of working together to accomplish the Region's goals and aspirations.
At a highlight of the reception, José Manuel Bolieiro offered a word of appreciation for the work carried out by the United States Consul in Ponta Delgada, Margaret C. Campbell, who took up her duties in July 2022. The President underlined the collaboration between the Consul and the Azorean Government in various areas, emphasising the importance of these partnerships for the Region's development.
"The work of Consul Margaret C. Campbell has been an honour to the Azores. Her dedication in various areas is an example of what can be achieved through cooperation and dialogue," he stressed.
For her part, Margaret C. Campbell reciprocated the praise, acknowledging José Manuel Bolieiro's leading role and the positive impact of the Regional Government on the global stage. She highlighted initiatives such as the approval of the Azores Marine Protected Areas Network (RAMPA) and efforts to protect the oceans, referring to the Azores as "an example to the world."
As a symbol of this spirit of collaboration and optimism, José Manuel Bolieiro and Campbell shared a toast to the New Year, renewing their wishes for a promising future for the Azores and the world.
"We all have a role to play. It is the small gestures of each person that, together, can make a difference in building a more peaceful and fair world," stated José Manuel Bolieiro.
In an event marked by symbolism and hope, the President of the Government made his vision for 2025 clear: a year when peace, prosperity and understanding between peoples are goals to be achieved, both in the Azores and in the rest of the world.
