Young people attending level 4 vocational courses who decide to do their traineeship on an island other than the one where they study will now receive support amounting to 100% of the Minimum Monthly Wage in force in the Region instead of the current 90%, announced the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment on Monday in Ponta Delgada.

This change falls within the revision of the regulations of the MOOV - Mobility, Occupation and Vocational Guidance Programme, whose Ordinance will be published in the Official Journal in the coming days, stated Maria João Carreiro. She spoke at the graduation diploma delivery ceremony for more than 40 trainees from the Ponta Delgada Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vocational School (EPCCIPD).

Trainees attending the 1st and 2nd years of level 4 courses, and not just those in the 3rd year, as per the regulations still in force, will have the opportunity to do their traineeship on another island in the Region as part of the "Nemésio Pro" sub-programme. The possibility has also been created to support traineeship supervisors/coordinators for up to 2 trips to the islands where the traineeship activities take place to provide effective training support.

"With these improvements, we aim to make MOOV even more attractive to young people and vocational schools. We want to make this innovative programme in the Azores an opportunity for young people to develop a greater understanding of the Region's reality and to take up the possibilities already available and those to be created on each of the nine islands," she explained.

The Regional Secretary challenged more vocational schools and young people to join MOOV, promoted through the Regional Directorate for Youth, congratulating the EPCCIPD for having organised 5 projects this year for 5 trainees who did their traineeships in companies located on other islands in the Region.

"We are developing actions and initiatives to promote an educational path that broadens young people's horizons and has advantages for our economy, such as the MOOV programme or the Entrepreneurial Academy - School of Leaders, which allows young people to develop the skills to be the builders of their paths," she said.

Regarding the young people who have now graduated from the Event Organisation Technician, Marketing Technician and Electronics, Automation and Computers Technician courses, Maria João Carreiro congratulated them on "completing an important journey"’ that has "prepared them for the qualified performance of an occupation or to pursue higher education, setting an example for other young people."

The Regional Secretary also praised the "pride in a training programme that qualifies young people's talent" and the "confidence in the skills acquired, which will surely be an asset for the future" of the more than 40 young people who have now graduated from a level 4 vocational course conferring dual certification.

"Have no doubt: your training is your business card. It will set you apart in a competitive labour market that needs qualified young people!" she said.

Maria João Carreiro reiterated the Azorean Government's commitment to professional qualifications in cooperation with Vocational Schools, such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ponta Delgada Vocational School, "a benchmark Vocational School and an example of perseverance, dynamics, modernisation and commitment to the qualification of young people and adults."
