Secretaria Regional do Mar e das Pescas
The Autonomous Region of the Azores is represented at the 24th Extraordinary Meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), which is taking place from today until November 18 in Limassol, Cyprus.
The Azores will be represented at this plenary session of ICCAT - an intergovernmental organisation operating in the fisheries sector that is responsible for the conservation of tuna and other tuna-like species in the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent waters - by Andreia Braga Henriques, Regional Director for Fisheries, and the Director of Resources, Fishing Fleet and Aquaculture Services. The representative of the Association of Tuna and Similar Producers of the Azores will also be present, as part of the Portuguese delegation integrated into the European Union delegation at this event.
The meeting will bring together representatives of the 53 ICCAT contracting parties. It will primarily focus on debating and approving the measures to be implemented with a view to the preservation of tuna stocks and the implementation of criteria for the allocation of fishing opportunities, namely for the bluefin, bigeye, flying and swordfish species.
