The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, was present on Monday at the celebration of the 108th birthday of Idalina Moniz, the oldest person in the Azores, in a tribute marked by emotion and recognition of the long road of sacrifices and contributions that the older generations have given to the Region.
The celebration, which took place in the parish of Ribeirinha, municipality of Ribeira Grande, was a symbolic moment of sharing and raising awareness of the value of solidarity between generations.
In an emotional testimonial, José Manuel Bolieiro expressed his satisfaction at participating in such a special moment for Idalina Moniz, describing it as "a joy to see a person of this age, with this happiness and above all with the warmth of an adoptive family taking care of her."
He took the opportunity to stress the importance of an intergenerational commitment in the Azores, stating that “younger people should have the responsibility and sensitivity to take care of their elders."
The leader of the Azorean Government stressed that respect and care for the elderly dignifies people in old age and perpetuates gratitude for the sacrifices they have made, evoking personal memories of his parents.
“Younger people have a better life in the Azores today because our elders worked and made many sacrifices so that we would be better off today,” he said.
