Prime Minister of East Timor, Xanana Gusmão, on official visit to the Azores

On October 15 and 16, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, will be on an official visit to the Autonomous Region of the Azores as part of his visit to Portugal. During the visit, which will take place on the island of Faial, Xanana Gusmão will carry out his official duties.
On October 15, the Timorese leader will meet with the President of the Azorean Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, at the Clock Building in the German Colony. Meetings are also scheduled with the President of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, Luís Garcia, and the Mayor of Horta, Carlos Ferreira.
The official programme will include visits to important scientific and cultural institutions on the island, such as the Azores Maritime School, OKEANOS - the Institute for Research in Marine Sciences - and the Porto Pim Whale Factory Museum, accompanied by José Manuel Bolieiro. These sites represent important areas of cooperation, particularly in terms of preserving marine resources and sharing scientific knowledge.
The official delegation from East Timor will comprise the Deputy Prime Minister, Francisco Kalbualdi Lay, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, and the Secretary of State for the Media, Romualdo Ximenes das Neves. The Portuguese Ambassador to Dili, Manuela Bairos, and the East Timorese Ambassador to Portugal, Isabel Guterres, will accompany the visit.
This visit highlights the ongoing collaboration between East Timor and Portugal, with the Azores playing a crucial role in strengthening relations, whether in terms of science, culture, or institutions.
