The Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, Paulo Estêvão, will attend the NEREUS (Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies) European Symposium this week in Toulouse, France.

The session to be held on Wednesday and Thursday is entitled "Space in Occitania: the future has already begun!" On this occasion, the Azores will present their vision in this area, addressing the Santa Maria space ecosystem project, among other elements. The symposium will focus on energy and water management, and the use of space technologies for the emerging challenges of these sectors.

The Autonomous Region of the Azores is a member of NEREUS, which brings together European regions using space technologies. It aims to harness the benefits of space technologies for their regions and their different applications, as well as respond to the needs of the end-users of these technologies.

The entity seeks to achieve, among other things, goals such as involvement in European Union programmes to respond to the needs of the end-users of these technologies, increasing citizen participation in European space policy and boosting the potential for exploiting space technologies to sustain the economic growth of the Regions.

The symposium stands out from similar events by providing tangible knowledge and practical use cases in the public and private sectors while stimulating dialogue between service providers and administrations.

Over two days, the event will feature a series of high-level speeches from European Union and regional officials, panel discussions and presentations.

In this third edition, the symposium will be held in the Occitanie region (city of Toulouse).
