Regional Government and Civil Protection liaise with National Government over devastating fires - Communication

At this difficult time when Portugal is facing devastating fires ravaging Mainland Portugal, the Regional Government would like to offer its deepest solidarity to the National Government, local authorities, organisations and all the men and women who, with courage and dedication, are on the front line fighting the blazes.

As such, the President of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA), Rui Andrade, called the President of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), Duarte Costa, expressing the Region's readiness to deploy firefighters to step up the firefighting effort, which has not yet been requested - the Azores Civil Protection maintains its promptness.

At this time, in addition to firefighters, security forces and all the Civil Protection agents who are tirelessly battling the blaze to protect the population and their property, the Region's thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have lost their lives following these tragic events.
