The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, stressed on Wednesday evening, at the end of the meeting with the Santa Maria Island Council, that the Government ‘clarified in detail the 58 questions’ presented, considering the meeting both "fruitful and enlightening."

The President of the Government expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out by the Regional Government during this statutory visit, namely with the solution found for the Airport Housing Estate and the investment in accessibility to Santa Maria Island.

Regarding maritime freight transport, José Manuel Bolieiro admitted that, although there has been progress, it is a pertinent matter that "deserves the consideration of the Azorean Government," given the issues that still exist.

As for maritime passenger transport, the President of the Government recalled that "the Government has never ruled out the possibility and the development of this possibility" in a seasonal plan.

The President of the Government recalled that "mobility between islands is the major focus of this Government," particularly by air through the "Azores Fare"- the measure has been an asset for all islands, with Santa Maria benefiting from the number of flights and passengers landing and boarding on the island.

He also took the opportunity to reiterate the Azorean Government's willingness to continue working closely together through the "cooperation commitment" that has been developed between the Azorean government and the Vila do Porto local authorities.

"Santa Maria is valuable and will be valued," stated José Manuel Bolieiro.
