Applications open for support for payment of two air journeys for students displaced from their island of residence
Secretaria Regional da Juventude, Habitação e Emprego
Applications are now open for the "Return Home" measure, which supports students displaced from their island of residence to attend educational establishments in the Azores, Madeira, or Mainland Portugal. Eligible students can receive support for the payment of two air journeys per school year.
Applications for travel during the 2024/2025 school year are open until August 15, 2025, and should be submitted using the electronic form available on the Youth Portal at juventude.azores.gov.pt.
In addition to other documents to be submitted when applying, students are required to present the invoice for the purchase of the air ticket, which must be issued in their name and bear their Tax Identification Number.
The "Return Home" measure includes, regardless of household income, the payment of two round trips per school year for displaced students. It also covers the cost of purchasing hold luggage and penalties for changing travel dates, when not included in the ticket.
As an alternative to the two round trips per school year, a combination of a single one-way ticket (OW - One-Way) and a single return ticket (OW - One-Way) is eligible for this mobility aid, up to a limit of two combinations per school year.
Young people up to 26 attending level 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 courses within the National Qualifications Framework at a school establishment outside their island of residence, including another island in the Azores, Mainland Portugal or Madeira, are eligible for this measure.
Young students abroad can also benefit from this measure, with only air travel within Portuguese territory being eligible.
The "Return Home" measure was created by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, and is part of the "+ Youth" package to attract and maintain young talent in the Azores.
More information on the "+ Youth" package can be found at https://juventude.azores.gov.pt/.
