Presidência do Governo Regional
The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, chaired the "Parishes 2024" training session today on the island of Terceira, an initiative organised by the Regional Directorate for Cooperation with Local Government that has been travelling around the nine islands.
The President of the Government praised the work carried out by mayors in the Azores, emphasising the significant contribution they make to the development of the Region and the well-being of the population.
"Mayors are an example of hard work and resilience and should be a source of inspiration and pride for all of us," emphasised José Manuel Bolieiro.
About fifty mayors attended the training session. It focused on the dissemination of the Technical and Financial Cooperation Scheme between the Association of Municipalities of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (AMRAA), Parishes and Parish Associations of the Azores, and the provision of information on the Legal Framework for Public Contracts in the Azores - Regional Legislative Decree 27/2015/A.
Following the agreement reached with the Association of Municipalities of the Autonomous Region, the President of the Government informed the audience that the payment of the revenue from the variable personal income tax rate, no longer paid by the State Budget to municipalities since 2009, will be made by the end of the year.
"Unlike in the past, this Government has assumed and fulfilled its responsibility to pay this debt, which will be paid this year to the 19 Azorean municipalities of the Azores," said the President of the Government.
He added: "I am proud of the solidarity that the local municipal authorities in the Azores have received from the Government of the Azores under my leadership."
This series of events underlines the Regional Government's commitment to effective cooperation between regional and local authorities to strengthen parishes and promote sustainable and equitable development throughout the Region.
