José Manuel Bolieiro distinguished with honorary citizenship of municipality of Povoação - Communication

The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, was distinguished on Wednesday with the honorary citizenship of Povoação at the solemn session celebrating the 185th anniversary of its elevation to municipality status.

On the occasion, José Manuel Bolieiro expressed his "gratitude for the honour," praising the anniversary of the municipality of São Miguel Island, an island "that grew with the existence of Povoação, which also raised the Azores to prominence."

The President of the Government also honoured the memory of his parents, highlighting the importance of family values in his life.

"In this moment of recognition, I cannot forget the love, dedication and the place of birth of my parents," he added.

The occasion also was an opportunity to praise the work carried out by the Mayor of Povoação Pedro Nuno Melo, who highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between the Regional Government and local authorities in developing the Region.

"This is my acknowledgement, commitment and willingness to continue working together," José Manuel Bolieiro said, reiterating his commitment to ensuring "fair treatment" for all municipalities.

The President of the Government also highlighted the significant investments that have been made and the projects to be implemented by this Government in the development of the municipality of Povoação - they show a strong commitment to improving local public infrastructures and services.

The projects mentioned included the final phase of Ribeira Quente Regional Road, with an investment of 6.7 million Euros, and the first phase of the Furnas - Povoação link, involving an investment of 7.7 million Euros.

The project for the 2nd phase of the Furnas - Povoação road link was also mentioned, as part of the 2024 Plan, with an investment of 75 thousand Euros, as well as the project for the new Povoação Basic Education and Secondary School, also part of the 2024 Plan, with an investment of 100 thousand Euros. The refurbishment of the Povoação Health Centre, with an investment of 1.5 million Euros, was another important investment highlighted by José Manuel Bolieiro.

These investments reflect the Regional Government's commitment to promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life of Povoação residents.

The President of the Government noted that these projects are fundamental to "ensuring that the municipality continues to grow and prosper, meeting the needs of the population and providing better living conditions for all."
